Director's Note
Karst is my debut film project. The story takes place in my hometown, Qiandongnan, Guizhou Province, China, which is where I grew up. This region boasts a unique karst landscape. When I decided to film here, it made me reflect on the people living in this area.
The villagers here lead a repetitive life, year after year, and they each have their own share of challenges and setbacks from various aspects of life. Despite these difficulties, they always treat others with kindness and care, displaying a valuable quality of simplicity and sincerity.
The formation of the karst landscape is a result of processes such as dissolution, erosion, and corrosion, essentially arising from the corrosion, destruction, and damage between substances. It possesses high visual appeal but typically takes thousands to millions of years to form. It seems that there is a close connection between the geographical environment and the people who live here. So, I followed the characters to explore this indescribable relationship.
