Synopsis
In conservative Malaysia, the mere existence of a baby hatch remains a whispered taboo, condemned by the rising tide of social conservatism that brands it as an enabler of moral decay. Lai Sum, Fatimah, Kam, and Nurul, committed employees of a Kuala Lumpur baby hatch, navigate a maze of societal opposition to empower women from diverse backgrounds grappling with the complex notion of bodily autonomy.
As Ramadan ends, a dire situation unfolds when Siew Man, an underage girl, teeters on the brink of a life-altering decision – abortion. Lai Sum endeavours to rescue her from the depths of despair. However, her well-intentioned intervention unwittingly entangles them both in the perilous currents of theocratic and patriarchal forces, threatening to dictate their fates.

Director's Note
In 2017, we paid our first visit to a non-governmental baby hatch in Malaysia. While holding back her tears, a female Muslim social worker told us, “We work around the clock to save babies. But the people outside think the hatch is an incest-promoting hell, and will be punished by God one day…”
The second visit was in 2022, when the world began to enter the post-pandemic era. Everything seemed to be returning to normal. However, the cases of unwanted pregnancies and sexual assaults grew during the lockdown period, so as the number of subsequently abandoned babies. In a conservative society where such things are a taboo, the female social workers working on abandoned babies can only quietly offer comfort to mothers and babies in silent distress.
This narrative unfolds in Malaysia, composing a vivid lullaby that does not fear the dark.
